He had an interest in law and the Constitution from childhood. Fate made him crack the UPSC and join the Indian Revenue Service. There, too, he represented the department in the Supreme Court. Meandering through a corporate top job, he finally heard his calling and started practising law in the Supreme Court. His analytical skills and clear thinking have found a place in the media as well. Today, Virag Gupta is a well-known author and media personality as well. He has written over 2500 in-depth articles for various newspapers, authored 23 books, has more than 30 crore readers in six languages and is found as frequently on TV news channels as in the Supreme Court. Mr Gupta has tried to address all concerns of an UPSC aspirant. He has narrated his own UPSC journey. How did he prepare for the prelims and the mains, and then finally the interview? Why did he choose optional subjects completely different from what he had studied during graduation and post-graduation? How many hours should one devote to his preparation?
Not only that, but he has also delved into questions like, ‘Should one have a Plan B, especially considering the difficulty level of the UPSC exam and the uncertainties around it? Mr Gupta has also spoken on the qualities needed to be a good bureaucrat.
He has also revealed why he resigned from one of the most coveted jobs and joined a senior position in a multinational consultancy company. He also disclosed why he resigned from the corporate job, too – to pursue a career in law from scratch – at an age when a lot of people start making their retirement plans.
