What is the similarity between the recent Indo-Pak skirmish and the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict? Simple, both started as a strike against the sponsors of terrorism. Pakistan-sponsored terrorists have been wreaking havoc in India. Similarly, Iran-backed Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi militias have been attacking Israel, former diplomat Mr Ashok Sajjanhar, who was once posted in Iran, told Indian Masterminds in a video conversation.

India and Pakistan’s skirmish ended in a ceasefire three days after it had started. India had been hitting terrorist hideouts, training camps and strategic spots at will. In the same manner, after being hit badly by US and Israeli bombers, Iran is being forced to seek a truce with the active help of Russia, he says.
Mr Sajjanhar feels Iran is in its weakest phase. It doesn’t have the required arsenal. Most of its military commanders have been wiped out in Israel and US air strikes. It lacks air power. As a result, Israel and the US air force have been bombing its nuclear and strategic installations day in and day out. Its biggest allies – Russia and China – haven’t come out to support it. They have only been doing lip service. Most of the Middle Eastern countries too have decided to either side with the USA or to remain neutral.
Shorn of international support Iran isn’t left with many options now. “No country in the world wants to see Iran acquiring nuclear capabilities, as it is a harbourer of terrorism. Moreover, it has vowed to wipe Israel from the world map,” says Mr Sajjanhar.
