To Be Back in Ujjain as SSP is a Blessing, Says this Shiv Bhakt IPS Officer

Situated on the banks of the Shipra River, Ujjain is one of the most ancient cities in India and one of the major pilgrimage centres among the Seven Hindu Tirthas. Mahakaleshwar, here, also holds Kumbh Mela every 12 years. With the development of the Mahakal Lok the footfall has increased exponentially. While the city is immersed in religious activities most part of the year, it also faces some law and order problems. So, how difficult it is to police a city like Ujjain?

SSP Ujjain Sachin Sharma says, “No, it is not difficult, but different.” A devotee of Lord Shiva, the 2014-batch IPS officer believes this opportunity is a blessing for him. It’s like “life coming full circle”. During his college days, he used to visit the city frequently and he feels highly nostalgic to be back here.

So, have his earlier visits helped him to know Ujjain better? What has been the most challenging part of being an SSP here? Why is he often seen mingling and playing football with the students? And, did he really write ‘tabla’ as his hobby in the UPSC CSE DAF?
