Change in bureaucracy with change in political government in a state or Centre is not unusual. But, the manner in which Telugu Desam Party supremo Mr Chandrababu Naidu has been treating Andhra Pradesh bureaucrats doesn’t augur well for the system.
Mr Naidu hasn’t been elected Chief Minister yet. He hasn’t even been elected leader of TDP legislature party, a prerequisite for becoming CM. But, Mr Naidu has already been dealing a raw deal to senior bureaucrats. Not only the Chief Secretary has already been replaced but Mr Naidu refused to meet senior bureaucrats calling on him to congratulate him on his party’s performance.
Guntur district collector Venugopal Reddy along with former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, CID chief N. Sanjay and Kolli Raghurami Reddy arrived at Mr Naidu’s Karakatta Road residence in their vehicles for a courtesy call. The police personnel stationed at Naidu’s residence sent a communication to the officials at Naidu’s residence whether to allow them in or not. A curt “No” was the response from the CM’s residence, as these officials had not sought prior permission to meet Naidu. They were asked to go back.
Incidentally, CID chief N. Sanjay headed the inquiry in cases like Skill Development Appointments Scam and the alignment of Amaravati Inner Ring Road, in which Naidu hasd been arrested by the CID. Mr P.S.R. Anjaneyulu had been withdrawn from the election duty and transferred without a posting by the Election Commission.
Kolli Raghurami Reddy too had played a key role in the arrest of Naidu in the AP skill development scam. Guntur district collector Venugopal Reddy too was asked to exit as he did not seek prior permission. All these officials face the allegation that they were close to outgoing CM, Jagan Mohan Reddy.
