- Exposed vote tampering in the mayoral election led to the AAP candidate's win after Supreme Court intervention. This was followed by the administrator's resignation and the police chief's transfer, raising concerns about election integrity and administrative stability
Three things happened one after another. One – the January 30 video of tempering of votes by the presiding officer in the Chandigarh mayor elections became public and went viral, leading to AAP candidate being declared winner by the Supreme Court later and second – on February 3 governor of Punjab and administrator of Chandigarh Banwarilal Purohit announced a sudden resignation citing personal reasons. Lastly and third was an order issued by Union home ministry on February 9, which stated that the Chandigarh Director General of Police Praveen Ranjan stands transferred to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on deputation basis.
In Ranjan’s place the home ministry appointed 1995 batch IPS officer Madhup Tiwari. Interestingly, less than a month back Tiwari had been given a crucial responsibility of law and order for zone 2 in the national capital as special commissioner of police. Aap chronology samajhiye!
