There are 73 sanctioned posts at the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), earmarked for the IPS officers. This is the latest vacancy status updated by the union ministry of home affairs on December 20 last year. But out of these 73 posts 42 are vacant.
Officials in the CBI say if the agency is not getting required number of IPS officers to fill posts, some of the SP rank posts can be diverted to CBI cadre officers who are serving at the rank Additional SP and are overdue to be promoted to the next rank of SP.
These officers are not being promoted since there no more posts of SP left which are to be filled by the cadre officers. They say diversion of IPS quota posts to the cadre officers could be for a period of two to three years and once the CBI gets requisite number of IPS officers, gradually these posts can be brought back to the IPS quota.
They say it is unlikely that the CBI will get such a huge number of IPS officers at the rank of SP and these posts will remain vacant. Will CBI chief Praveen Sood listen?
