After Tapan Deka, is external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing chief Ravi Sinha is also going to get an extension in tenure is question being debated in corridors of power. Besides providing precise information about terror infrastructure within Pakistan, parity with IB chief could be another reason to give an extended tenure to Sinha as well, who like Deka is also a 1988 batch IPS officer. Parity was one of the main reasons for the then IB chief Arvinda Kumar getting extension in tenure since the government wanted to extend tenure of R&AW chief Samant Goel. Both – Goel and Kumar – got extension in service for a year in 2021. Before them, in December 2018 too, the government had simultaneously extended tenure of chiefs of IB and R&AW – Rajiv Jain and AK Dhasmana respectively – for six months as general elections were scheduled in April-May, 2019.
