In a major turn of the events the state government of Punjab has appointed one of the top IAS officer Ruhee Dugg as the registrar of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) at Faridkot. This is the first time when any IAS officer has been assigned to this post. The 2014 batch officer Dugg will hold additional charge of this position while continuing her services as the additional secretary in the department of medical education and research.
According to the state’s medical education and research minister OP Soni, the appointment had been made on the orders of chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to ensure the transparency and improve the functioning of the university. Referring to the recent development in university, the vice-chancellor of the university Dr Raj Bahadur said that decision was taken with his consent and in the wake of covid-19. Since the corona crisis, the IAS officer has been in frontline to tackle the pandemic. They have been appointed to monitor each district. This is the reason why the university administration had suggested to do same for universities which led to the appointment of Ruhee.
Prior to the this, Ruhee also served as the SDM of Chamkaur Sahib while additionally serving as the SDM of Morinda. She was also appointed as the Addition Deputy Commissioner (General) and (Development) in Barnala. In last may she also took the post of Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Development.
