The Central Government has appointed 1985 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand Cadre, Amit Khare as an advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday. He is the former information & broadcasting and higher education secretary. He has been appointed on a contractual basis for two year.
The order said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment Shri Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.) (JH:1985) as Advisor to the Prime Minister in Prim Minister’s Office, in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India, on contract basis, as per other usual terms and conditions as are applicable in the case of reemployed officers of Secretary level in Government of India, initially for a period of two years of until further orders, whichever is earlier”.
He had retired from the post of Higher Education Secretary on 30 September.Amit Khare was earlier Secretary in the Ministries of Human Resource Development and Information Broadcasting. In the 1990s, he was the District Magistrate of Chaibasa in Jharkhand. The fodder scam was exposed during his tenure. The investigation into the fodder scam was started on his own written FIR as District Magistrate, in which many top leaders and officials including former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra were found guilty. Lalu Prasad Yadav was serving a sentence in Ranchi jail till recently in a case related to fodder scam.
