Patna: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle aimed at strengthening law enforcement and administrative efficiency, the Nitish Kumar led Bihar Government has reassigned 17 IPS officers across key positions in the state police setup.
The most high-profile change sees senior officer 1995 batch IPS officer Pankaj Kumar Darad taking over as Additional Director General (ADG), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), while also continuing to hold charge of ADG (Law & Order) and the Special Surveillance Department.
1996 batch IPS officer Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, currently serving as ADG, CID (Weaker Sections), has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of ADG, Prohibition, reflecting the government’s continued focus on its anti-liquor enforcement initiatives.
In another key move, 2002 batch IPS officer Rakesh Rathi, who was previously heading Cyber Crime as IG, Economic Offences Unit (EOU), will now serve as Inspector General (IG), Special Branch, Patna.
The shake-up also includes:
- 2007 batch IPS officer Ranjit Kumar Mishra, who now handles IG (Training) in addition to his existing role with the State Armed Forces (SAF).
- 2009 batch IPS officer Babu Ram appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Bihar SAF (North), Muzaffarpur.
- 2010 batch IPS officer Tauhid Parvez assumes the position of DIG, CID.
- 2011 batch IPS officer Rajendra Kumar Bhil is now DIG (Personnel).
- 2010 batch IPS officer Rajiv Mishra gains an additional role as DIG, Prohibition.
At the commandant level, 2012 batch IPS officer Deepak Ranjan takes over dual charge of Commandant, BSAP-3 and BSAP-17, both stationed in Bodhgaya, a region of strategic and religious significance.
Changes at the Superintendent of Police (SP) and equivalent ranks include:
- 2012 batch IPS officer Rajiv Ranjan-I moving to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Patna.
- Veena Kumari appointed as SP, Rail, Muzaffarpur.
- 2013 batch IPS officer Ashok Kumar Prasad named Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Training, Patna.
- 2015 batch IPS officer Vinay Tiwari takes charge as SP, Cyber Investigation & Campaign, reflecting the growing emphasis on digital crime prevention.
- 2019 batch IPS officer Chandra Prakash becomes Assistant Director at the Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir.
This reshuffle is being seen as a proactive measure by the state government to streamline policing functions and ensure dynamic leadership across critical departments amid evolving security challenges.
