In a surprise move on May 1, 2025 — observed globally as International Labour Day — the Government of Haryana announced the creation of a new administrative unit titled the Department of Future.

According to an official notification, the state government appointed two IAS officers to newly created posts within this department. Mr. Amneet P Kumar, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, has been appointed as Commissioner and Secretary in the Department of Future. Meanwhile, Dr. Aditya Dahiya, a 2011-batch IAS officer of the same cadre, has been appointed as Director in the Department of Future.
Both officers will hold these new positions in addition to their existing responsibilities. Mr. Kumar serves as Commissioner and Secretary in the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Archives. Dr. Dahiya currently serves as Special Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training and the Department of Parliamentary Affairs.
The announcement sparked curiosity within bureaucratic circles regarding the scope, framework, and mandate of the newly constituted Department of Future. Many officers are awaiting further clarity on the department’s intended role and vision.
