Two senior IPS officers of the Telangana cadre, Ms. Charu Sinha (1996-batch IPS officer) and Mr. Akun Sabharwal (2001-batch IPS officer), have returned to the state after completing their Central deputation of over six years each. Both officers have reported to the government and are awaiting new postings.

Speculation is rife that the Telangana government is planning a major reshuffle of IPS officers, which may include deputy inspector general (DIG), inspector general (IG), and additional director general of police (ADGP) ranks. It is expected that Ms. Sinha and Mr. Sabharwal will be assigned key roles in this reshuffle.
Ms. Charu Sinha made history as the first woman IG of the CRPF Southern Sector and also held important responsibilities in the CRPF’s Kashmir sector. Meanwhile, Mr. Akun Sabharwal, who served as IG, ITBP, is well known for his tenure as Director of Enforcement and Vigilance in the Excise Department, where he handled a high-profile drugs case involving Tollywood actors and directors.
The state government has sought intelligence reports on several IPS officers, particularly their work efficiency and how they manage various issues. Chief Minister Mr. A. Revanth Reddy has recently instructed IAS and IPS officers to engage more closely with the public and address citizens’ concerns effectively.
Additionally, reports indicate that some SPs in different units are underperforming, prompting the government to consider transfers to improve administrative efficiency. Meanwhile, some IPS officers are planning to go on Central deputation, pending government approval.
