Guwahati/New Delhi: The Government of Assam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct pre-feasibility studies for the development of five proposed greenfield airports across the state. The initiative aims to enhance regional air connectivity, strengthen tourism infrastructure, and accelerate long-term economic growth in Assam.
The MoU was formalized in Guwahati in the presence of senior officials from the state government and AAI. The agreement was signed by Commissioner and Secretary (Transport) Akashdeep and AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar.
Focus on Strategic and Tourism-Driven Growth
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that the proposed airports are strategically located to support both security considerations and tourism development.

- Improve accessibility to remote and scenic destinations
- Increase tourist footfall
- Attract investment
- Promote regional economic development
The Chief Minister added that improved intra-state air connectivity would make travel faster and more convenient for residents and visitors alike.
Five Proposed Greenfield Airport Locations
The five identified locations for the proposed greenfield airports include:

Pre-Feasibility Studies and Next Steps
Under the MoU, AAI will conduct comprehensive pre-feasibility studies covering:

- Navigation and safety infrastructure
- Environmental impact assessments
- Projected passenger traffic
- Financial viability estimates
Based on these findings, the Assam government will proceed with preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) and securing necessary approvals.
Broader Economic and Infrastructure Impact
