New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three Members and two Director Generals in the Railway Board, marking significant lateral and vertical reshuffles at the top tier of Indian Railways. Among these five appointments, two officers holding Level 17 posts have been shifted laterally.
These changes reflect the government’s focus on strengthening leadership in infrastructure, finance, human resources, safety, and operations within the Indian Railways.
New Appointments in the Railway Board
The ACC-approved appointments and assignments are as follows:
Vivek Kumar Gupta (IRSE: 1988) – Appointed Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board
A senior Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer, Mr. Gupta will oversee infrastructure projects, modernization efforts, and capital development in the rail sector.
Manjusha Jain (IRAS: 1988) – Appointed Member (Finance), Railway Board
An Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer, Ms. Jain will be responsible for financial planning, budgeting, and revenue management of the Railways.
Aruna Nayar (IRPS: 1987) – Appointed Director General (Human Resources), Railway Board
A seasoned Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer, Ms. Nayar will manage human resource policies, recruitment, training, and employee welfare initiatives.
Hitendra Malhotra (IRMS: 1987) (Electrical) – Appointed Director General (Safety), Railway Board
An Indian Railway Mechanical Service (IRMS) officer specializing in electrical engineering, Mr. Malhotra will be responsible for safety protocols, accident prevention, and compliance measures across the network.
Hari Shankar Verma (IRMS: 1987) (Traffic) – Appointed Member (Operations & Business Development), Railway Board
Also from IRMS, with a focus on traffic management, Mr. Verma will oversee operational efficiency, train planning, logistics, and business development initiatives.
Lateral Transfers and Strategic Roles
Two of the officers holding Level 17 posts have been shifted laterally, reflecting the government’s intent to place experienced personnel in roles that align with evolving strategic priorities of Indian Railways. These reshuffles aim to enhance operational efficiency, financial management, and modernization across the national rail network.
