Mussoorie: The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), the premier training institute for India’s civil servants, has issued a detailed advisory to the newly selected officers from the Civil Services Examination 2024, urging them to maintain exemplary conduct and exercise restraint on social media.

In a set of guidelines released on Friday, the Academy emphasized that both comments and posts made online should reflect the dignity and decorum expected from public servants. “You must ensure that your personal conduct and official and social interface… is courteous, respectful, dignified and appropriate,” the advisory stated.

The instructions underscore that the officers’ behavior – both online and offline – will impact not only their individual careers but also the reputation of the civil services as a whole. The Academy advised officers to avoid impulsive social media activity and to “pause and reflect” before posting, warning that even content made before training begins can reflect on the service.

The guidelines also stress rejecting all forms of inducements, including gifts, hospitality, and free publicity. Officers were reminded that their integrity will define their credibility and that financial prudence and ethical vigilance are non-negotiable traits.

LBSNAA quoted its motto, Sheelam Param Bhushanam (Character is the Supreme Embellishment), as the guiding principle for all officers and alumni. The message concluded with a reminder that inner conscience should lead their decision-making, and that gender sensitivity and respect for women remain integral to the ethos of Indian bureaucracy.

These directives come shortly after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the final results of the CSE 2024 on April 22. A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment to prestigious services including the IAS, IFS, and IPS. Shakti Dubey secured the top rank in this year’s exam.

The selected candidates will soon commence their foundation training at LBSNAA, where they will be groomed for roles in governance and public service delivery across the country.
