New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has issued a major administrative order transferring six IAS officers currently serving in the Delhi government to various states and Union Territories. This move comes as part of a broader reshuffle following the promotion of 22 State Civil Services (SCS) officers to IAS ranks last week.
The transfers aim to enhance administrative efficiency and provide the officers with exposure to governance challenges across different regions under the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre.
Key Officers and Their New Postings
According to the official order, the following officers have been reassigned:
- Shravan Bagaria, District Magistrate, South-East District, Delhi – transferred to Goa (effective 1 June 2026).
- K C Surendra, Deputy Commissioner, MCD – transferred to Puducherry (effective immediately).
- Sushil Singh, Director of Information and Broadcasting, Delhi Government – transferred to Mizoram (effective immediately).
- Ranjit Singh, Secretary, Delhi Legislative Assembly – transferred to Mizoram (effective 1 June 2026).
- Ajay Kumar, District Magistrate, North-East District – transferred to Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (effective immediately).
- Pranjal J Hazarika, Ministry of Food and Supplies, Delhi Government – transferred to Jammu and Kashmir (effective 1 June 2026).
Purpose of the Reshuffle
The administrative reshuffle serves multiple objectives:
- Strengthening governance and administrative efficiency across Union Territories and states.
- Providing newly promoted IAS officers with hands-on experience in different jurisdictions.
- Facilitating a smooth transition for departments in the Delhi government by filling key positions vacated by these officers.
Officials noted that the reshuffle will also allow the Delhi government to begin the process of appointing replacements for these critical positions in districts, municipal bodies, and legislative departments.
AGMUT Cadre Experience and Career Growth
The AGMUT cadre system is designed to provide IAS officers with cross-jurisdictional administrative exposure. Officers gain valuable experience managing diverse governance challenges, which is essential for career growth in the Indian Administrative Service. This reshuffle highlights the government’s focus on building a versatile and skilled administrative workforce capable of handling responsibilities across multiple regions.
Next Steps for Delhi Government
With the departure of these six officers, the Delhi government is expected to soon issue notifications for filling vacancies in key departments. This includes posts in district administration, municipal corporations, legislative offices, and various government ministries. The transition aims to ensure continuity in governance and service delivery during the reshuffle process.
