Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann Takes Over as Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command – Know More About Him

New Delhi: Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann, AVSM, VM, today assumed charge as the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) of Western Air Command, Indian Air Force (IAF). A seasoned fighter pilot and strategic military leader, the Air Marshal brings over 35 years of rich operational and administrative experience to one of the IAF’s most critical commands.

Distinguished Military Career Since 1989
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Mann was commissioned into the IAF on 16 December 1989 as a fighter pilot. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated over 3000 flying hours on various fighter aircraft, showcasing exemplary skills as a Pilot Attack Instructor.

His operational journey includes commanding a frontline fighter squadron, serving as Chief Operations Officer at a forward air base, and later, as Air Officer Commanding of a premier fighter base—testaments to his leadership under demanding circumstances.

Strategic Roles and International Engagements
Air Marshal Mann has held several key assignments at Air Headquarters and Command Headquarters, where he contributed to national and regional air defence preparedness. Notably, he directed joint military training exercises with:

  • Republic of Singapore Air Force (2017)
  • United States Air Force (2018)

These engagements reflect his experience in international military cooperation and joint-force operations.

Academic Excellence and Administrative Leadership
A graduate of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in India and the Royal College of Defence Studies, London, Air Marshal Mann has demonstrated academic distinction in strategic and operational defence planning.

In addition to his operational roles, he has held appointments such as-

  • Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration, Central Air Command
  • Air Defence Commander, Central Air Command
  • Director General (Weapon Systems) at Air Headquarters prior to his current role

For his exemplary service, the Air Marshal has been conferred with two of India’s highest peacetime military honors

  • Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM)
  • Vayu Sena Medal (VM)

These prestigious awards recognize his sustained excellence, dedication, and contributions to the Indian Air Force and national defence.

Western Air Command: Strategic Importance
The Western Air Command (WAC) is one of the most strategically significant commands of the IAF, covering operations in North and North-Western India, including key areas along the international borders.
