Kolkata: In a strong display of unity and political mobilisation, more than 3,500 women leaders from across West Bengal gathered at Nazrul Mancha on Friday as the women’s wing of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) launched “Unnayoner Panchali”, a statewide campaign marking fifteen years of governance under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The convention witnessed participation from women representatives across every tier of elected leadership, including Members of Parliament, MLAs, Zila Parishad members, municipal corporators, Block Mahila Presidents and Anchal Mahila Presidents. Party leaders described the turnout as a reflection of the trust and confidence women across the state place in Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and her welfare-oriented policies.
Panchali Narrates Bengal’s Development Journey
A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of a specially composed Panchali, performed by renowned artist Aditi Munshi. The narrative folk composition traced West Bengal’s development journey over the past fifteen years, highlighting governance initiatives and social welfare measures undertaken by the Trinamool Congress government.
By choosing the Panchali—a traditional folk art form historically sung by women—the party symbolically placed women at the heart of the state’s development narrative, reinforcing its emphasis on women-led progress and empowerment.
Women-Centric Outreach at the Grassroots
As part of the Unnayoner Panchali campaign, the AITC Mahila wing will now roll out an extensive grassroots outreach programme across West Bengal over the next month. Women leaders will organise neighbourhood-level meetings, known as para and courtyard baithaks, where they will sit with residents on chatais, distribute Panchali booklets, and engage in direct conversations with local communities.
The aim of these interactions is to explain how various government schemes and policies have impacted everyday lives, particularly those of women, and to carry the message of the party’s governance record directly to households.
Message of Empowerment and Collective Progress
Speaking at the event, participants emphasised that the campaign is as much about celebrating women’s dignity and voice as it is about governance achievements. “Over the last fifteen years, our dignity and voices have been restored. This is our collective story of progress,” a woman leader said.
With the women’s wing taking the lead, the Trinamool Congress is set to amplify its outreach through a mass, women-driven mobilisation effort, placing women at the forefront of its political and developmental narrative across West Bengal.
