Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of two senior IPS officers, P Sitharama Anjaneyulu (IPS:1992:AP) and Kanthi Rana Tata (IPS:2004:AP), for another six months in connection with alleged lapses in handling a sensitive criminal case involving Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Narendra Kumar Jethwani. Their suspension is now extended until March 8, 2026, or until further orders.
Background of Suspensions
Mr. Anjaneyulu, who was serving as the State Intelligence Chief, was initially suspended in September 2024 under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. He faces charges of misusing his authority in Criminal Case No. 90/2024 registered at Ibrahimpatnam police station. Allegations suggest that he expedited the case without proper scrutiny, raising concerns over procedural lapses. The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed his suspension, and multiple review panels have recommended its periodic extension.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kanthi Rana Tata, the former Police Commissioner of Vijayawada, was suspended for supervisory lapses in the same case. Specifically, he was accused of allowing arrests without adequate examination of the complaint or thorough preliminary investigation. His suspension was also upheld by the Centre and extended periodically.
Ongoing Investigation and Review
During the latest review meeting held on September 2, 2025, the committee noted that vital documentary evidence related to Criminal Case No. 469/2024 at Ibrahimpatnam police station is still under verification. The panel expressed concerns that reinstating the officers at this stage could compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
In light of these observations, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand issued the suspension extension orders, signed by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The orders direct the Director General of Police (DGP) to notify the concerned officers and ensure strict compliance with the suspension directives.
Government’s Stance
The government’s decision to extend the suspensions highlights its emphasis on ensuring a fair and unbiased investigation into the high-profile case. By maintaining the suspension, authorities aim to uphold procedural integrity and prevent any undue influence on the investigative process.
