Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer N Sanjay, a 1996-batch officer, by another six months until May 26, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension was issued under Rule 3(8)(d) of the AIS (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, through Government Order RT No 2213 signed by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand on Thursday.
Background of Suspension
N Sanjay was initially placed under suspension under Rule 3(1) of the AIS (D&A) Rules in connection with allegations of misappropriation and misuse of public funds. These issues reportedly arose during his tenure as Director General of the AP State Disaster Response & Fire Services and as Additional Director General of Police, AP CID.
The allegations pertain to the development and maintenance of the AGNI (Automated Governance & NoC Integration) NoC Web Portal and funds allocated for training police personnel on SC/ST rights and the Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act, 1989.
Review Committee Findings
The AP government has constituted a review committee to examine suspension cases of IPS officers under Rule 3(8)(c) of AIS (D&A) Rules. During its meeting on November 21, the committee noted that the ongoing criminal investigation, initiated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on December 24, 2024, requires further collection of evidence.
Specifically, the committee highlighted the need to examine additional key witnesses, obtain relevant documents, and procure Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports regarding electronic devices and questioned documents. Based on these considerations, the committee recommended that the suspension of N Sanjay be extended by six months.
Next Steps
The suspension will continue until the investigation concludes or until further orders are issued by the Andhra Pradesh government.
