Ms. Ankita Sharma, widely known in Chhattisgarh as “Lady Singham,” has become a symbol of fearless administration, quick action, and uncompromising law enforcement. Her strong stance against rising crime, especially stabbing incidents and hooliganism, has renewed public confidence in policing. More than punitive action, her approach emphasizes guiding the youth, creating awareness, and restoring citizens’ sense of safety—elements vital to strengthening the state’s overall governance framework.

Swift Action After Stabbing Incident at Mahakal Chowk

Following a stabbing incident at Mahakal Chowk in Rajnandgaon, tensions escalated rapidly as a protest erupted in the area. Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, Superintendent of Police Ms. Ankita Sharma reached the spot the very same night, met the injured youth’s family, and ensured the administration responded promptly. Her presence on the ground, empathetic engagement, and immediate measures helped contain unrest and reinforced public trust in the police administration.

A Career Marked by Innovation and Discipline

During her postings in districts such as Rajnandgaon and Raipur, Ms. Sharma has consistently demonstrated that committed leadership can transform policing outcomes. She introduced innovative methods, including parading habitual offenders, which became instrumental in reducing local crime. Her impartial, transparent, and strategic approach has made her a formidable challenge to criminal networks, including Naxal elements, earning her the reputation of being their “nightmare.”

Inspiring Journey From a Small Village to the IPS

Ms. Ankita Sharma hails from a small village in Durg district and pursued her schooling in Hindi medium. Despite facing setbacks in her UPSC journey, she continued with determination and secured selection into the Indian Police Service in her third attempt in 2018 with an All India Rank of 203. Her story of perseverance, resilience, and self-belief continues to inspire thousands of civil service aspirants across the country.

Leaving MBA Studies to Chase Her Dream of UPSC

Before joining the IPS, Ms. Sharma had enrolled in an MBA program at Swami Vivekanand Technical University in Bhilai but chose to leave it midway to focus fully on her UPSC preparation. With a strong academic background—92% in Class 10 and 90% in Class 12—she demonstrated early on the discipline required to pursue demanding professional roles. Her journey stands as a powerful reminder that dedication and focus can overcome any obstacle.

A Strong Stand Against Knife Crimes and Hooliganism

In response to an increase in stabbing incidents, Ms. Sharma has enforced a strict zero-tolerance policy. She has directed teams to identify habitual offenders, ensure immediate arrests, and conduct preventive actions across sensitive zones. Her strategy aims to instill fear among criminals while making public spaces safer for ordinary citizens. This robust approach aligns with Chhattisgarh’s broader goals of strengthening law and order and modernizing police response systems.
