New Delhi: The Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT), a third-generation indigenous platform designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), continues to serve as a symbol of India’s self-reliance in defence production. Proudly fielded by the Indian Army, the Arjun embodies cutting-edge design tailored for Indian conditions.
Firepower and Protection
The Arjun is equipped with a powerful 120 mm rifled main gun, delivering exceptional accuracy and destructive capability. Its Kanchan composite armour provides superior protection against modern anti-tank threats, ensuring crew survivability on the battlefield. The tank is manned by a four-member crew, integrating protection, lethality, and efficiency.
Advanced Engineering Systems
The MBT features advanced systems across engine, transmission, suspension, hull, turret, and gun control. These upgrades ensure high mobility, stability, and sustained performance in diverse terrains from deserts to high-altitude regions. Designed for long endurance and combat effectiveness, the Arjun strengthens India’s mechanised warfare capabilities.
Pillar of Indigenous Defence
As a flagship project under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Arjun Tank reinforces India’s commitment to indigenous defence production. It represents decades of research, development, and innovation by DRDO, supported by Indian industry partners. Its continued deployment reflects India’s drive to modernise its armoured fleet with homegrown platforms.
