Uttarkashi: In swift response to a massive landslide near Dharali in Uttarakhand on 6 August 2025, the Indian Army has launched a large-scale humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operation, rescuing over 70 civilians and mobilising additional columns to affected areas.
The operation, led by formations under the Surya Command, is focused on restoring access, evacuating stranded individuals, and providing critical relief support to those impacted.

Swift Mobilisation to Affected Zones
Following the landslide, two additional Army rescue and relief columns have been deployed to Gangotri and Dharali to strengthen ongoing efforts. Earth-moving equipment has been inducted to reopen the crucial road axis connecting Harshil to Dharali, a lifeline for logistics and evacuation.
Drones and trained rescue dogs are also being employed to locate stranded civilians in inaccessible and debris-heavy zones.

Focus on Life-Saving Aid
Rescued individuals are receiving immediate medical care and food supplies. Priority is being placed on reaching every stranded person, with ongoing search and rescue operations continuing round-the-clock.
The Indian Army reiterated its unwavering commitment to support the affected population, stating that every possible effort is being made to provide relief and assistance in this critical hour.
