IPS officer Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha will continue as Director of Special Protection Group (SPG). Just a day before his retirement he has been re-hired on the position for a period of one year on contract basis. Mr. Sinha is an IPS of 1987 batch and Kerala cadre. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-employment of Mr. Sinha on a contract basis for a period of one year beyond the date of his superannuation.
Let it be noted that SPG is responsible for the security of Prime Minister. Any IPS officer can only be given extension of six month on this position. For further extension, the SPG rules need to be changed. So, to avoid that the officer has been re-employed on contractual basis.
