Arunachal Pradesh marked a historic moment today with the inauguration of its first commercial coal mine at Namchik Namphuk in Changlang district. The event, graced by Union Minister for Coal and Mines Mr. G. Kishan Reddy and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, signals a new era of economic growth and energy contribution for the northeastern state.
Inauguration Ceremony and Key Highlights
The ceremony began with a traditional Bhumi Pujan and a tree plantation drive under the “100-tree plantation initiative” at the project site. Following this, the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine was formally inaugurated. The event also included the handing over of the mining lease and the flagging off of tools and machinery by CPPL to the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block, marking the official start of mining operations.

Significance of the Project
Speaking at the occasion, Union Minister Mr. G. Kishan Reddy emphasized the importance of this milestone, calling it “a symbol of new hope and a significant step toward energy security and regional development in the North East.” He revealed that the mine holds coal reserves of approximately 1.5 crore tonnes and is operational from today, reinforcing India’s drive for energy self-reliance.

Chief Minister Mr. Pema Khandu welcomed the new mining venture, highlighting its potential to stimulate the state’s economy through job creation and steady revenue generation.
