New Delhi: Asheesh Kumar, currently serving as General Manager at Coal India Limited (CIL), has been appointed as Director (Business Development) at the Maharatna public sector enterprise. The appointment is for a period of five years, from the date he assumes charge, or until superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment was formally cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), based on the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Coal, as per the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order issued on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Asheesh Kumar’s elevation follows a rigorous selection process conducted by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). He was selected from among 12 candidates interviewed by the board for the crucial board-level position on May 17, 2025.
His new role as Director (Business Development) will be central to CIL’s long-term strategic vision, particularly as the company expands its focus beyond traditional coal mining into diversified energy segments, sustainability initiatives, and global partnerships.
