New Delhi: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has secured additional orders worth ₹537 crore since its last disclosure on May 16, 2025, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday.

The new orders further strengthen BEL’s role as a key defence electronics manufacturer and include a diverse mix of high-tech systems such as communication equipment, an advanced composite communication system for ships, jammers, software packages, simulator upgrades, test rigs, spares, and other essential services.

Ongoing Strategic Role in Indigenous Air Defence Project ‘Kusha’
BEL continues to play a pivotal role in India’s defence modernization efforts, especially as a development partner with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Project Kusha – India’s ambitious indigenous alternative to the Russian S-400 air defence system.

During its Q4 FY2025 earnings call, BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain said, “We are the development partner with DRDO and are jointly developing many subsystems for Kusha, mainly different types of radars and control systems.”

He further noted that BEL is awaiting a decision on the appointment of the system integrator for the project. If selected, BEL stands to receive an order worth up to ₹40,000 crore, which would be a massive boost to its defence portfolio.

Recent High-Value MoD Contract for Mi-17 V5 Helicopters
In addition to the recent ₹537 crore worth of contracts, BEL had in April 2025 signed a major deal worth ₹2,210 crore (excluding taxes) with the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Electronic Warfare (EW) Suites for the Mi-17 V5 helicopters of the Indian Air Force.

These systems – developed by CASDIC, DRDO – will be manufactured by BEL and include-

  • Radar Warning Receiver (RWR)
  • Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS)
  • Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS)

This contract further reinforces BEL’s standing as a strategic defence electronics supplier, trusted with the nation’s most sensitive and technologically advanced military programs.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat
With consistent order inflows, BEL is on a strong growth trajectory. Its deepening partnership with DRDO and strategic role in next-gen defence systems like Project Kusha positions it as a central player in India’s journey toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

About Project Kusha
Project Kusha, led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), aims to develop the Extended Range Air Defence System (ERADS), also known as XRSAM or PGLRSAM. The program focuses on creating a transportable, long-range surface-to-air missile system capable of countering various aerial threats, including drones, aircraft, and missiles. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is DRDO’s development partner, contributing to several subsystems of the project such as radars and control systems.

About BEL
Bharat Electronics Limited is an Indian public sector aerospace and defence electronics company, headquartered in Bangalore. It primarily manufactures advanced electronic products for ground and aerospace applications. BEL is one of sixteen PSUs under the administration of Ministry of Defence of India.
