Mumbai: In a significant move to enhance India’s maritime and dredging infrastructure, BEML Limited and Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) valued at approximately Rs 350 crore during the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai. The agreements were exchanged by Cmdr R.G.K. Rao (Retd.), Head of SBU – Aerospace & Maritime, BEML, and Capt S. Divakar, Managing Director & CEO, DCIL, in the presence of Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML Limited, and Dr. M Angamuthu, IAS, Chairman, DCIL.

The signed MoUs are aimed at enhancing self-reliance in dredging operations and supporting India’s maritime development through the supply of indigenous technology, equipment, and specialized dredging solutions. The agreements include the design and construction of five inland cutter suction dredgers, the provision of cable dredgers and long-reach excavators, and the supply of customized dredging solutions to support critical reservoir de-siltation and inland waterway development projects across the country.

Key Areas of Collaboration:

  • Supply of Indigenous Spares for Dredgers: BEML will provide critical spare parts for DCIL’s dredgers, enabling efficient and cost-effective maintenance.
  • Construction of Dredging Equipment: BEML will design and manufacture five inland cutter suction dredgers, a key asset for enhancing India’s dredging capacity.
  • Dredging and Excavation Support: BEML will supply cable dredgers, long-reach excavators, and other tailored solutions for reservoir managem

Under this collaboration, BEML will focus on the manufacturing, maintenance, and lifecycle support of dredgers and related equipment, while DCIL will manage the deployment and operational management of the dredging units across key maritime and inland projects.

Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML Limited, emphasized the significance of the partnership

“This partnership represents a major leap forward in enhancing India’s indigenous capabilities in the maritime and dredging sectors. Through these MoUs, BEML is committed to leveraging its engineering expertise and manufacturing strength to create sustainable and efficient dredging solutions. This will align with the Government of India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, aiming for a self-reliant and modernized maritime infrastructure.”

The collaboration also highlights a shared commitment to promoting Atmanirbhar Bharat by fostering domestic manufacturing, driving technological innovation, and accelerating the modernization of India’s maritime infrastructure. Last year, BEML and DCIL had already entered into an MoU focused on the design and development of indigenous spare parts for dredgers, providing a strong foundation for this expanded partnership.

This strategic cooperation marks an important step towards ensuring India’s long-term maritime sustainability and building a world-class dredging infrastructure to support the nation’s growing demand for inland waterway development, reservoir management, and efficient dredging operations.
