Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has been honored with the prestigious WCDM Disaster Risk Reduction Award 2025 in the category of ‘Innovations in Mitigation for Climate Change.’ The award was presented by Union Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal at a ceremony held on January 15, 2024, at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
The award, instituted by the World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM), acknowledges outstanding contributions to disaster risk management and climate change mitigation. WCDM, an initiative of the Disaster Management Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS), provides a platform for global experts and organizations to address critical challenges in disaster and climate resilience.
BEML earned this accolade for its impactful climate action initiatives, including:
- Implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes.
- Developing electric heavy vehicles, energy-efficient metro coaches, and electric locomotives.
- Establishing waste management, recycling systems, and rainwater harvesting facilities.
- Conducting afforestation drives to enhance green cover.
- Transitioning to renewable energy sources and adhering to ISO 14001 standards for environmental management.
