Ludhiana: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated Tata Steel’s state-of-the-art green steel plant in Ludhiana, marking a significant step toward sustainable industrial growth in Punjab. The plant, spread across 115 acres in Hi-Tech Valley, has an annual production capacity of 0.75 million tonnes and represents Tata Steel’s second recycling-based green steel facility in India.
Sustainable Manufacturing and Economic Impact
The plant primarily manufactures TMT bars for the construction sector using 100% recycled materials and renewable energy, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional steel production. CM Mann highlighted the plant’s expected economic contributions:
- Annual tax revenue: ₹200–300 crore
- Employment generation: 2,500 direct jobs, with indirect opportunities in logistics, transportation, and local MSMEs
Tata Steel’s CEO, TB Narendran, thanked the CM and the local community for support during the plant’s two-and-a-half-year construction. Officials emphasized that the facility strengthens the local supply chain and reinforces Punjab as a preferred hub for hi-tech industrial investment.
