New Delhi – In a major stride towards digital transformation in India’s energy sector, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned its first commercial Remote Monitoring and Diagnostic Services (RMDS) project at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Mumbai Refinery. The pioneering initiative reflects BHEL’s growing capabilities in deploying smart, predictive, and 24×7 digital diagnostic technologies for core industrial sectors.
Smart Tech for Industrial Resilience
The RMDS project is a significant step under the Industry 4.0 framework, in line with the Government of India’s Make in India vision. Designed to offer round-the-clock remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and data-driven diagnostic insights, the system is expected to transform BPCL’s operational efficiency and asset reliability.
Through real-time monitoring and predictive analytics, the RMDS platform will help BPCL reduce equipment downtime, improve decision-making, and optimize maintenance schedules—key factors in boosting plant productivity and safety.

Leadership Presence Marks GO-LIVE Milestone

The RMDS system was formally inaugurated during a GO-LIVE ceremony attended by top leadership from both PSUs. The event was graced by Director (Refinery with Additional Charge of CMD), BPCL, along with Shri S.M. Ramanathan, Director (Engineering, R&D), BHEL, and senior executives from both organizations.
The commissioning marks a new chapter in BHEL’s transition from a traditional engineering PSU to a digitally enabled solutions provider. It also reaffirms the company’s commitment to providing future-ready technologies to strengthen India’s energy backbone.
