Porbandar: Bhupendra Patel virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹413.81 crore in Porbandar on March 19. The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to achieving the vision of “Viksit Gujarat to Viksit Bharat by 2047” under the guidance of Narendra Modi.
46 Development Projects Dedicated to Citizens
The event, held at Tajawala Hall, saw the Chief Minister dedicate a total of 46 development projects to the people of Porbandar district:
- 17 projects worth ₹320.59 crore were e-foundation laid
- 29 completed projects worth ₹93.22 crore were e-inaugurated
These projects aim to strengthen infrastructure and improve the overall quality of life in the district.

Major Push to Urban Development
Highlighting rapid urban progress across Gujarat, CM Patel noted that Porbandar Municipality has been upgraded to a Municipal Corporation. Around ₹291 crore has been allocated for its modernization.
Overall, development works worth over ₹414 crore have been planned, focusing on transforming Porbandar into a modern urban hub.
Focus on Eco-Tourism and Environment
The development initiatives go beyond infrastructure, incorporating eco-tourism projects such as:
- Sarvodaya Van
- Mokar Sagar Wetland
Additionally, environmental and forest development efforts in the Barda Hills region are being actively coordinated to enhance sustainability and tourism appeal.
Strengthening Rural Infrastructure and Skill Development
The state government has also invested in rural and youth development:
- ₹20 crore allocated under RDSS Yojana to improve rural electricity infrastructure
- Construction of new buildings for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to boost skill development
These steps aim to empower rural communities and enhance employment opportunities.
Cultural Significance and Heritage Promotion
Emphasizing Porbandar’s rich cultural heritage, CM Patel highlighted the upcoming Madhavpur Fair, starting from Ram Navami, as a symbol of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.” The fair celebrates the traditional wedding of Lord Krishna and Rukmini, connecting western and northeastern India.
He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, noting Porbandar as his birthplace and reaffirming commitment to development rooted in values of cleanliness and service.
₹2,100 Crore Development Achieved in Five Years
CM Patel stated that ₹2,100 crore worth of development work has been completed in Porbandar district over the past five years through systematic planning aligned with its cultural identity.
He assured that efficient financial management ensures no shortage of funds for ongoing and future projects, urging citizens to actively participate in development efforts.
Key Announcements by Ministers
Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia highlighted several allocations:
- ₹55 crore for street lighting
- ₹16 crore for Chhaya Iconic Road
- ₹5 crore for restoration of a historic library
- ₹100 crore approved for a Regional Science Centre
He also noted that the ₹20 crore Sarvodaya Van project will boost tourism and environmental identity.
Continued Development Momentum in Porbandar
Former Cabinet Minister Babubhai Bokhiria recalled that Porbandar’s development journey began in 2001 under Narendra Modi and is now yielding strong results.
Major developments include:
- Medical and agriculture colleges
- Cow sanctuary
- Over 1,000 km of rural roads
- Ongoing water supply and pipeline projects
The ₹413.81 crore development initiative in Porbandar marks a significant step toward infrastructure growth, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation in Gujarat.
