The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has announced promotions for 36 IPS officers in the state, as per a list released by the Home Department on Monday evening. The list includes officers from the 2007, 2010, and 2012 batches, with several district Superintendents of Police (SPs) among those promoted.
Prominent names in the promotion list include Sudhir Kumar Porika, Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, Har Kishore Rai, Satya Prakash, Ashish Bharti, Rakesh Kumar, Rajendra Kumar Bhill, and Swapna Meshram. Officers from the 2007 batch—Daljit Singh, Vivek Kumar, and Ranjit Kumar Mishra—have been elevated to the rank of Inspector General (IG). Vivek Kumar’s promotion is conditional upon attending the fourth phase of mid-career training.
Ganesh Kumar, a 2020 batch IPS officer currently on central deputation, has received a proforma promotion from IG to Additional Director General (ADG). This follows a vacancy created by the promotion of Jitendra Singh Gangwar to Director General (DG).
Eight IPS officers have been promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG), including Sudhir Kumar Porika and Chandan Kumar Kushwaha from the 2010 batch, effective immediately. Officers of the 2011 batch, including Har Kishore Rai, Satya Prakash, and Ashish Bharti, will receive DIG promotions effective January 1, 2025.
Additionally, several officers have been granted senior pay scales, including Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, Anand Kumar, Kumar Ashish, and others. The move is seen as a significant step by the state government to boost morale and recognize the contributions of its police officers.
