Patna: The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC), Gaya, being developed under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), is set to emerge as Bihar’s largest industrial township, spanning 1,670 acres in Dobhi block, Gaya district.
With a total investment of ₹1,339 crore, including a land acquisition cost of ₹462.14 crore, the IMC Gaya project is expected to attract manufacturing investments worth ₹16,524 crore and generate over 1.09 lakh employment opportunities upon completion.
Project Reviewed by Chief Secretary; EPC Tender in July
Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena recently reviewed the progress of the project and instructed that agency selection be finalized by March 2026. The land has already been acquired by the state, and the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tender is expected to be floated in the first week of July 2025.
The tender is being finalized in consultation with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC). Under an EPC contract, a single agency will oversee the design, procurement of materials, and the physical construction of the township.
Part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme
The Gaya IMC is one of the nodes under the AKIC project, a key part of the Central Government’s National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, currently being implemented across five states. It stands out as Bihar’s flagship industrial infrastructure initiative.
The project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 28, 2024, while environmental clearance was granted on March 18, 2025, by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd (BIMCGL), was incorporated on January 6, 2025, to manage project implementation. The state cabinet declared it an industrial area and granted stamp duty exemption in March 2025.
Focus Sectors and Industrial Potential
IMC Gaya will be a sector-specific hub with focus areas including:
- Agro and food processing
- Readymade garments
- Auto components and technical industries
- Steel-based products
- Aerospace and defence
- Building materials
- Furniture
- Handloom and handicrafts
The township will feature plug-and-play infrastructure, built to attract global and domestic investors, with state-of-the-art facilities to support manufacturing and service-based enterprises.
Connectivity, Talent Pool, and Ease of Business
The state government has approved a 7-km greenfield road project costing ₹142 crore to connect the IMC site (External Connectivity – E3) to the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-19/GT Road). This will improve logistics and reduce transport time for industries.
Proximity to IIM Bodh Gaya, engineering colleges, medical institutions, universities, and industrial training institutes (ITIs) ensures a skilled talent pipeline for potential employers. The area also benefits from Gaya’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, giving it additional global visibility.
The government has also introduced multiple policy reforms to enhance the ease of doing business, reinforcing its commitment to industrial development in Bihar.
