The Bihar government is set to announce a groundbreaking policy for the renewable energy sector, aimed at fostering investment and accelerating sustainable development. Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary in the Energy Department, shared this announcement at the ‘Bihar Business Connect 2024’ summit, encouraging investors to explore the immense business opportunities the state has to offer.
Pal mentioned that the policy is in its final stages and will soon be presented for cabinet approval. The framework has been shaped by extensive consultations with the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and industry stakeholders, ensuring it addresses the needs and aspirations of investors. The policy will include streamlined processes such as single-window clearance to enhance the ease of doing business.
Highlighting Bihar’s potential, Pal pointed to opportunities in manufacturing and repairing power and distribution transformers, smart meter facilities, vacuum circuit breakers, and conductors. He also emphasized the possibilities in renewable energy projects like pumped storage and floating solar ventures.
The government is committed to providing necessary infrastructure for industrial growth, including uninterrupted power supply through the creation of three independent power grids in the state. By July 2025, solar projects with a capacity of 185 MW, coupled with 254 MWh of battery storage, will be operational. Additionally, a phased rollout of 1,500 MWh battery storage projects is planned, alongside the establishment of an 800 MW x 3 thermal power plant.
Bihar’s proactive approach underscores its determination to position itself as a leading hub for renewable energy and industrial innovation in the country.
