Patna: In a major initiative to boost tourism and provide convenient travel options, the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to launch a new electric bus service from February 2026. The service will connect Patna with prominent tourist destinations across the state, including Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nawada, Kaimur, Sasaram, Banka, Sitamarhi, and Vaishali.
The plan aims to provide seamless travel for both domestic and international tourists while promoting Bihar’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes. According to officials from the Tourism and Transport Departments, the state has seen a significant increase in visitors over the past few years, driven by improved infrastructure and rising interest in historical and religious sites. The electric bus service is expected to further encourage tourism and make Bihar as accessible as other popular destinations like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Uttar Pradesh.
40 Electric Buses to Operate from Patna
The government has finalized plans to deploy 40 modern electric buses from Patna to key tourist hubs. Final discussions on routes are ongoing between the Tourism and Transport Departments, and operations are expected to begin by February 2026. Officials emphasized that the buses would be equipped with modern amenities such as comfortable seating, television, music systems, mobile charging points, and other facilities to ensure a pleasant travel experience for all categories of tourists.
Enhancing Tourism Potential in Bihar
The introduction of electric buses is expected to give a significant boost to Bihar’s tourism sector. Over the past two decades, the state has developed robust infrastructure, attracting large numbers of domestic and international tourists. By providing safe, cost-effective, and comfortable transportation options, the government hopes to increase tourist inflow and extend their stay at various destinations, thus contributing to local economies.
Young Travelers Welcome the Initiative
Travel enthusiasts and bloggers have praised the government’s move. Suman Kumar, a traveler, said, “Bihar has many lesser-known sites such as the Jethiyan Hills in Rajgir and Lalpania Lake in Kaimur, which offer a unique experience. With this e-bus service, tourists from across the country and the world will be able to explore Bihar conveniently.”
Another traveler, Brijesh Kevat, added, “The electric bus service will also benefit travel bloggers and students. Now visiting Bihar’s main tourist spots will be easier and more economical than ever before.”
A Step Toward Sustainable and Modern Travel
The initiative reflects the government’s focus on sustainable and eco-friendly tourism, as the use of electric buses will reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy. Along with convenience and comfort, the service is designed to ensure safe and efficient travel for tourists, making Bihar a modern and tourist-friendly state.
The government’s new electric bus plan is being seen as a landmark initiative that will not only enhance Bihar’s tourism profile but also contribute to the economic growth of local communities surrounding these destinations.
