Patna has kicked off an extensive road safety awareness campaign led jointly by the Transport Department and Mission Road Safety, with the aim of educating at least one lakh students and young people across the city by January 2026. The initiative focuses on promoting safe driving habits among school and college students—one of the most vulnerable age groups involved in road accidents.
Awareness Sessions Held in Schools and Colleges
Under the programme, special sessions of 1.5 to 2 hours are being conducted daily in government and private schools, including classes 9 to 12, as well as institutions such as IIT, NIT, polytechnic institutes, and various colleges.
During the sessions, students are shown real CCTV footage of road accidents to help them understand the dangers of overspeeding, lane indiscipline, driving without helmets or seatbelts, and ignoring basic traffic rules.
Experts also train students on what immediate steps to take after an accident, how to administer first aid during the “golden hour,” and which government schemes are available to support accident victims.

Students Urged to Drive Safely for Themselves and Others
On Monday, the campaign reached Era Public School, Kankarbagh, where students were taught key road safety practices.
Experts emphasised that safe driving is not only about self-protection but also about valuing the lives of others on the road.
School Principal Dr. Neena Kumar said road safety reflects social responsibility and compassion:
“Following traffic rules shows that we value life—our own and others’.”
Rising Awareness Expected to Reduce Accidents
Mission Road Safety representative Amit Kumar shared that the campaign has gained fresh momentum after the Bihar Assembly elections. He highlighted that young people make up a large share of both drivers and accident victims.
“Creating awareness early can significantly reduce road accidents in the future,” he said, adding that nearly all major educational institutions in Patna are now part of this mission, and the programme will expand further in the coming weeks.
Officials from the District Transport Office, Assistant DTO, traffic police teams, and NCC’s Udaan unit are actively participating to ensure the campaign’s outreach and effectiveness.
