Patna: Vijay Kumar Sinha, the newly appointed Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms, formally assumed office on Monday, taking charge of one of the key departments in Bihar. During a ceremony attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh and Secretary Jai Singh, Sinha was welcomed with bouquets and briefed on the department’s ongoing initiatives.
Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Minister Sinha emphasized his commitment to safeguarding land and promoting respect for the motherland. He highlighted that Bihar has been grappling with illegal activities orchestrated by three main types of mafia: sand, alcohol, and land. “Those involved in illicit sand and alcohol businesses, which illegally manipulate land ownership, will be closely monitored. Land mafias and their protectors will face strict action,” Sinha said. He added that previous efforts to curb sand mafia operations had already shown positive results, contributing to an increase in departmental revenue.
Focus on Land Surveys and Revenue Growth
The new minister also held a meeting with department officials to review ongoing programs, including the statewide land survey, the revenue mega campaign, and other key initiatives being implemented under the department. Minister Sinha directed officials to ensure these projects are completed on time with transparency and efficiency. He emphasized that one of the primary goals of the department is to reduce litigation arising from land disputes, ensuring that citizens can access justice quickly and fairly within the framework of the law.
Aligning with State and National Development Goals
Minister Sinha reiterated his commitment to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development mission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed Bihar. He stated that the department will formulate strategic plans to protect and optimize the use of land for small and marginal farmers, even within limited resources. “All development-focused departments in Bihar require land for projects. The Revenue Department will work in coordination with them to ensure proper utilization of land while maintaining full transparency,” he added.
The minister’s appointment signals a proactive approach towards tackling organized illegal activities and improving land governance in Bihar. With a strong emphasis on transparency, citizen justice, and efficient land management, the new leadership aims to strengthen the department’s role in supporting the state’s development and safeguarding the rights of farmers.
