New Delhi: State-owned energy major Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced a ₹25,000 crore investment plan over the next five years to significantly expand its City Gas Distribution (CGD) operations across India. The announcement was made by Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas at BPCL, during India Energy Week 2026 in Goa.
Accelerating City Gas Network Expansion
BPCL has already invested approximately ₹8,000 crore across 26 operational regions, building a strong foundation for its CGD infrastructure. The new investment will focus on:
- Accelerating pipeline rollout across urban and semi-urban areas
- Expanding household and commercial connections to piped natural gas (PNG)
- Strengthening CNG infrastructure for transportation
“We are confident of scaling up much faster,” said Mr. Tandon, emphasizing that the expansion aligns with the Government of India’s energy transition goals and the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat.

- Improve access to cleaner fuels in growing urban and semi-urban regions
- Reduce dependence on polluting fossil fuels
- Enhance air quality and lower carbon emissions in major cities
- Strengthen supply reliability amid rising demand for natural gas
This initiative positions BPCL as a critical player in India’s energy transition, supporting both sustainability and energy security objectives.
