BPCL’s ₹14,203 Crore PRFCCU Project at Mumbai Refinery
The PRFCCU project is a major initiative in India’s refining sector and is described as the first project of its kind being executed in the country. With a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), the project has an estimated outlay of approximately ₹14,203 crore.
It is BPCL’s second-largest project currently under execution and the largest project ever undertaken at its Mumbai Refinery.
The project is expected to enhance domestic value addition, strengthen India’s refining capabilities and contribute to the country’s energy security and the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The dedicated power infrastructure being developed by Tata Power will support the electricity requirements of this large-scale industrial project.
Tata Power to Strengthen Transmission Network in Trombay
Beyond meeting BPCL’s immediate power requirements, the collaboration is expected to strengthen Tata Power’s transmission network in the Trombay area of Mumbai.
The initiative will support anticipated growth in electricity demand from large industrial consumers in the region. Strengthening the transmission network is also expected to help accommodate future industrial developments and improve the reliability of power supply.
The project forms part of broader efforts to enhance electricity infrastructure in Mumbai’s key industrial areas and ensure adequate power connectivity for large-scale facilities.
Tata Power Plans 400 kV Transmission Facility at Trombay
As part of its long-term strategy to develop a robust and future-ready power network for Mumbai, Tata Power also plans to establish a 400 kV transmission facility at Trombay over the next five years.
The proposed facility is expected to enhance power evacuation capabilities and support reliable grid availability for Mumbai’s industrial and commercial ecosystem.
The planned transmission infrastructure will help address future electricity demand and strengthen the city’s power network as industrial and commercial activities expand.
Together, the proposed 110 kV infrastructure for BPCL’s PRFCCU project and the planned 400 kV transmission facility highlight Tata Power’s focus on strengthening Mumbai’s power infrastructure to meet growing industrial requirements.
Collaboration to Support Mumbai’s Industrial and Energy Infrastructure
The agreement between Tata Power and BPCL highlights the importance of reliable power infrastructure in supporting large-scale refinery and industrial projects.
While Tata Power will develop the 110 kV connectivity and associated infrastructure, BPCL’s PRFCCU project is expected to strengthen refining capacity and domestic value addition.
Together, the initiatives are aimed at supporting industrial growth, improving power connectivity and reinforcing Mumbai’s energy infrastructure.
