New Delhi: Technip Energies (PARIS: TE) has won two significant contracts from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for strategic refinery expansion projects at Bina in Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai in Maharashtra. The projects mark a substantial boost to India’s downstream energy and petrochemical infrastructure.

EPCC Contract for Bina Refinery Petrochemical Units

The first contract involves the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) of new polypropylene and Butene-1 units at BPCL’s Bina refinery. Once operational, these units are expected to produce 550 KTPA of polypropylene and 50 KTPA of Butene-1. These materials are crucial for industries such as packaging, pipes, and automotive components.

The project is part of BPCL’s larger Bina Petchem and Refinery Expansion initiative, which includes capacity augmentation and the development of a new petrochemical cracker complex, reinforcing the refinery’s capabilities to meet the growing domestic and international demand for petrochemical products.

EPsCm Contract for India’s First PRFCC Unit at Mumbai Refinery

The second contract is for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction management (EPsCm) services for a 3 MMTPA Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracker (PRFCC) unit at BPCL’s Mumbai refinery. This facility will be India’s first PRFCC unit, designed to convert heavy refinery residues into lighter, higher-value products such as gasoline and diesel.

The scope also includes auxiliary units, offsites, and utilities required for the PRFCC operation. This project is expected to significantly enhance product yield efficiency and support BPCL’s downstream expansion strategy in line with India’s energy transition and sustainability objectives.

Longstanding Partnership with BPCL

Technip Energies’ collaboration with BPCL spans over two decades, delivering complex energy infrastructure projects across India. With operational offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Dahej, and more than 50 years of presence in India, Technip Energies continues to provide engineering expertise and innovative solutions to strengthen the country’s energy sector.

Commenting on the contracts, Davendra Kumar, Managing Director of Technip Energies India, said: “These awards reflect BPCL’s confidence in our engineering capabilities and reaffirm our commitment to India’s energy security, economic growth, and sustainable industrial development.”
