New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has marked a significant milestone in India’s clean energy and biofuel journey by flagging off the first-ever tanker lorry carrying 1G Bio-Ethanol from its Bargarh Bio-Refinery to the IOTL Raipur Depot under the Government of India’s Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme.

The landmark shipment was flagged off by Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries), who also holds additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, underscoring the strategic importance of the project for the company and the country.

Strengthening India’s Biofuel Ecosystem

The commencement of ethanol dispatch from the Bargarh Bio-Refinery reflects BPCL’s growing role in strengthening domestic biofuel production and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. The initiative directly supports the national objective of increasing ethanol blending in petrol, a key pillar of India’s energy transition strategy.

By producing and supplying first-generation (1G) bio-ethanol, BPCL is contributing to cleaner transportation fuels while promoting the use of renewable, domestically sourced feedstock.

Leadership Review and Operational Readiness

During his visit to the Bargarh facility, Mr. Sanjay Khanna reviewed the bio-refinery’s operations and infrastructure. He commended the project and operations teams for their coordinated efforts and technical execution, which enabled the successful dispatch of the inaugural ethanol consignment.

The review highlighted BPCL’s emphasis on operational excellence, safety, and timely project delivery as it expands its footprint in renewable and alternative energy solutions.

Supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat and Sustainable Growth

The successful rollout of ethanol supply from the Bargarh Bio-Refinery aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting self-reliance in energy production. The project also supports rural and agricultural economies by creating demand for biofuel feedstocks and strengthening the bio-energy value chain.

BPCL’s continued investments in biofuels, refining efficiency, and clean energy solutions reinforce its commitment to sustainability, energy security, and the long-term vision of a Viksit Bharat.
