New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a state-owned oil and gas enterprise, has been honoured with the National Project Excellence Award (NPEA) 2025 under the “One of its Kind” category. The award recognises BPCL’s 2G–1G Integrated Bio-Ethanol Refinery at Bargarh, Odisha, highlighting the project’s innovative integrated design and excellence in execution.
The recognition was conferred during the 33rd Global Symposium and 7th World Project Management Forum Meet 2025, held in New Delhi.
Innovative 2G–1G Integrated Bio-Ethanol Refinery
The Bargarh refinery project represents a significant step in sustainable fuel production. By integrating second-generation (2G) and first-generation (1G) bio-ethanol technologies, the plant aims to improve efficiency, optimise resource utilisation, and promote environmentally friendly fuel alternatives.
The award acknowledges the innovative approach in design, project planning, and execution, marking the facility as a benchmark for biofuel projects in India.

The PSU is now focused on commissioning the 2G plant, which is expected to contribute significantly to India’s biofuel capacity and sustainable energy initiatives.
