Chandigarh: In a significant administrative reshuffle at the top level of Punjab Police, the Punjab government has transferred and posted six senior IPS officers with immediate effect on administrative grounds. The orders, issued by the Department of Home Affairs, include major changes in vigilance, law and order, prisons, home guards and police housing administration.

The most notable appointment in the latest reshuffle is that of Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan, who has been appointed as Special DGP-cum-Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, replacing P.K. Sinha. The changes are being viewed as part of a broader effort to strengthen key policing and administrative wings in the state.

P.K. Sinha Shifted to Law & Order Wing

Mr Sinha (RR: 1994), who was heading the Vigilance Bureau, has been appointed as OSD/Law & Order, Punjab, Chandigarh till April 30, 2026.

According to the order, after the superannuation of Arpit Shukla on April 30, he will formally assume charge as Special DGP, Law & Order, Punjab from May 1, 2026.

This transition indicates a planned succession in one of Punjab’s most sensitive policing assignments.

Ram Singh (RR: 1994), currently serving as Special DGP, Technical Support Services, has been assigned additional responsibilities as –

  • Special DGP-cum-Commandant General, Punjab Home Guards

This dual responsibility places him in charge of both technical support and auxiliary security infrastructure.

Arun Pal Singh Moves to Punjab Police Housing Corporation

Arun Pal Singh (RR: 1997), who was serving as ADGP, Jails, has now been posted as Managing Director, Punjab Police Housing Corporation, SAS Nagar.

He replaces Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan, who has moved to the Vigilance Bureau.

The posting places Arun Pal Singh in charge of police infrastructure and housing projects across the state.

R.K. Jaiswal Gets Additional Charge of Jails

Mr Jaiswal (RR: 1997), currently ADGP, NRI, SAS Nagar, will continue in his present role while also taking additional charge as ADGP Jails, Punjab, Chandigarh.

He replaces Arun Pal Singh in the prisons department.

This dual assignment expands his role across both NRI affairs and prison administration.

Gurmeet Singh Chauhan Placed at Disposal of DGP Punjab

Mr Chauhan (SPS: 2011), who was serving as DIG, AGTF Punjab, has had his services placed at the disposal of the Director General of Police, Punjab.

His next posting will be proposed separately.
