1,800 Civil Servants from Bangladesh to be trained under NCGG-MEA Partnership

The 53rd Capacity Building Program in field Administration for civil servants of Bangladesh was launched at the National Center for Good Governance (NCGG) in Mussoorie. Before the year 2019, more than 1500 civil servants of Bangladesh were trained in NCGG. After the successful completion of the Phase-I training, the work on capacity building of another 1,800 civil servants of Bangladesh has started, which is planned to be completed by 2025.

It is the only institute in the country to have trained 1,727 field-level officers of Bangladesh Civil Services such as Assistant Commissioners, Sub-District Officers/SDMs and Additional Deputy Commissioners. All the Active Deputy Commissioners of Bangladesh were also trained by the institute. The capacity building programs started over a decade ago, since then many trainee officers have risen to the level of Additional Secretaries and Secretaries in the Government of Bangladesh. As a result, there is a better coordination of governance between the two countries.

The National Center for Good Governance was established in 2014 by the Government of India as an apex institution in the country. It also acts as a think tank for good governance, policy reform, training and capacity building. NCGG, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, which has taken up the responsibility of capacity building of civil servants from several foreign countries. It has trained civil servants from 15 countries such as Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, Seychelles, Gambia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam, Bhutan, Myanmar and Cambodia. All the officers who attended the training have benefited immensely from these sessions.

The Capacity Building Program aims to equip civil servants in developing countries with the state-of-the-art knowledge, skills and tools to create and implement effective public policy in this complex and inter-dependent world. In addition to providing a cross-country experience, the capacity building program is expected to achieve the goal of good governance and gradual sustainable development, without the need to do everything again. NCGG launches e-Governance, Digital India, Universalization of Public Service, vision for Sustainable Development Goals, Use of Aadhaar in service delivery, Public Grievance Redressal Mechanism, Disaster Management in Coastal Region and other important areas Initiatives taken have been shared.

During the programme, participants will also be taken to see various development works like Delhi Metro, Smart City, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Central Information Commission, Election Commission of India etc.
