Suchitra Sinha, a retired IAS officer from Jharkhand has been honored with the Women’s Transforming Award. This award is given by NITI Aayog for promotion of art, culture and handicrafts.
Suchitra Sinha has been selected for her tireless efforts for their upliftment by working among the Sabar primitive tribe for the last two and a half decades in Neemdih, Seraikela. Suchitra Sinha has done remarkable work to hone the handicraft skills of Sabar tribe artisans and market their products, including through training from NIFT and participation in national-international handicraft fairs.
Sabar of Nimdih is earning ten thousand rupees per month today. Their products are also available on platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Suchitra Sinha received this award from boxer Lovlina Borgohain and women’s cricketer Manasi Joshi. He has dedicated this award to the artisans of the Sabar tribe.
This award started in 2018
This award has been started in 2018 on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The award is given to those women who have brought a change in the society through their efforts. The three dimensions of this are will power, action power and knowledge power. On this basis, the extraordinary women who contributed in building a strong and capable India are considered worthy of this award.
