New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has assigned additional charge of four senior-level posts to officers in the grades of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT), Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) and Director General of Income Tax (DGIT) following the retirement of the incumbent officers on August 31, 2026.
According to the CBDT order, the additional-charge arrangements will come into effect from September 1, 2026, and will remain in force until further orders.
The latest arrangements cover senior posts in Kolkata, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Mumbai, with four IRS officers taking on additional responsibilities alongside their existing assignments.
Surabhi Varma Garg Gets Additional Charge of Pr. CCIT, Patna and Bhubaneswar
Surabhi Varma Garg (IRS-IT:1991), who is serving as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Kolkata, has been entrusted with the additional charge of two senior posts:
- Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Patna
- Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Bhubaneswar
The additional charge has been assigned following the retirement of D Sudhakara Rao (IRS-IT:1990) on August 31, 2026.
Garg will continue to hold her existing position as Principal CCIT, Kolkata, while also handling the additional responsibilities of the Patna and Bhubaneswar offices.

Deepali Chandra Gets Additional Charge of Principal DGIT (HRD)
Deepali Chandra (IRS-IT:1991), presently serving as CCIT-1, Delhi, has been given the additional charge of Principal Director General of Income Tax (Human Resource Development), Delhi.
The arrangement follows the retirement of Anita Sinha (IRS-IT:1990) on August 31, 2026.
Chandra will therefore continue in her existing assignment as CCIT-1, Delhi while also taking charge of the Principal DGIT (HRD) post.
The HRD wing is an important component of the Income Tax Department’s administrative structure, dealing with human resource and organisational matters.
Yogesh Kumar Verma Gets Additional Charge of DGIT (Investigation), Patna
Yogesh Kumar Verma (IRS-IT:1991), currently serving as DGIT (Investigation), Kolkata, has been assigned the additional charge of DGIT (Investigation), Patna.
The additional responsibility has been necessitated by the retirement of Kalika Singh (IRS-IT:1991) on August 31, 2026.
Verma will continue to serve as DGIT (Investigation), Kolkata while additionally overseeing the investigation wing in Patna until further orders.
Upendra Bhushan Mishra Gets Additional Charge of CCIT (C)-1, Mumbai
Upendra Bhushan Mishra (IRS-IT:1994), currently serving as CCIT (C)-2, Mumbai, has been entrusted with the additional charge of CCIT (C)-1, Mumbai.
The arrangement follows the retirement of Vikram Sahay (IRS-IT:1992) on August 31, 2026.
Mishra will continue to discharge his existing responsibilities as CCIT (C)-2, Mumbai, while handling the additional charge of CCIT (C)-1.

The latest CBDT order places additional responsibilities on four senior IRS officers:
- Surabhi Varma Garg (IRS-IT:1991) — Pr. CCIT, Kolkata → Additional charge of Pr. CCIT, Patna and Pr. CCIT, Bhubaneswar.
- Deepali Chandra (IRS-IT:1991) — CCIT-1, Delhi → Additional charge of Principal DGIT (HRD), Delhi.
- Yogesh Kumar Verma (IRS-IT:1991) — DGIT (Investigation), Kolkata → Additional charge of DGIT (Investigation), Patna.
- Upendra Bhushan Mishra (IRS-IT:1994) — CCIT (C)-2, Mumbai → Additional charge of CCIT (C)-1, Mumbai.
Additional Charge Arrangements Effective From September 1
All four additional-charge arrangements will take effect from September 1, 2026, immediately after the retirement of the respective incumbent officers on August 31.
The arrangements are temporary and will remain effective until further orders, allowing the concerned offices to continue functioning without a leadership gap while regular appointments are awaited.
