New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has promoted three Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officers to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) for the panel year 2026.
The promotions cover officers from the 1994 and 1995 batches of the IRS (Income Tax).
The three officers promoted to the CCIT grade are Vanita Rattan Sharma (IRS IT: 1994), Upendra Bhushan Mishra (IRS IT: 1994) and Shahi Sanjay Kumar (IRS IT: 1995).
The latest promotions are part of the senior-level strengthening of the Income Tax Department’s leadership structure under the CBDT.

Upendra Bhushan Mishra Appointed CCIT, Mumbai
Upendra Bhushan Mishra (IRS IT: 1994) has been appointed as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (C)-2, Mumbai.
His posting comes simultaneously with his promotion to the CCIT grade for the 2026 panel year.
The appointment places Mishra in a senior leadership position in the Income Tax Department’s Mumbai formation.
Shahi Sanjay Kumar Gets CCIT (OSD) Post in Delhi
Shahi Sanjay Kumar (IRS IT: 1995) has been appointed as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Officer on Special Duty) in the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi.
In addition to the new CCIT (OSD) assignment, he will also hold the additional charge of the post he was holding prior to his promotion.
This arrangement allows continuity in his existing responsibilities while he takes up the newly assigned CCIT-level role.
Vanita Rattan Sharma Also Elevated to CCIT Grade
Vanita Rattan Sharma (IRS IT: 1994) has also been promoted to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Income Taxfor panel year 2026.
Her promotion places her in the senior-most leadership level of the Income Tax Department below the CBDT’s top administrative structure.
