The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a plea to the Supreme Court asking for the arrest and questioning of senior IPS officer and former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in relation with the multi-crore-rupee Saradha chit fund scam case.
The scam is one of the major financial scam caused by the collapse of ponzi scheme run by the Saradha group.
The national investigating agency is alleging that the IPS officer has not been cooperating in the Saradha chit fund scam case investigation and has requested the apex court for his arrest. It said that the officer’s questioning is necessary in order to unearth the larger nexus in the scam. Let it be note that Mr. Kumar is considered close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Kolkata High Court had granted him the relief saying it was not an appropriate case for custodial interrogation and had also directed him to cooperate with the investigating officers.
