The Government of India has placed employment generation and improving employability at the top of its agenda, implementing various initiatives to provide job opportunities for the nation’s youth.
Substantial investments have been made in schemes like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), and Deendayal Antodaya Yojana (DAY-NRLM & DAY-NULM). Additionally, programs like Make in India, Start-up India, Stand-up India, Digital India, PM-SVANidhi, and Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) are fostering employment opportunities. Infrastructure development in roads, railways, airports, ports, and waterways has further boosted job creation.
The National Career Service (NCS) Portal serves as a one-stop platform for career services, providing job listings, career counseling, vocational guidance, and skill development program details. In the Union Budget 2024-25, the Government announced a Prime Minister’s package of five schemes targeting employment and skilling for 4.1 crore youth over five years, with an allocation of Rs. 2 lakh crore. The 2025-26 budget continues this focus, creating employment opportunities in tourism, manufacturing, and fisheries while supporting entrepreneurship.
The Government is also filling vacancies through Rozgar Melas, held in 45-50 cities across States and Union Territories. Over 14 Rozgar Melas have been conducted, with several lakh appointment letters issued across various ministries and institutions. This information was shared by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
